My Teacher Banned Roblox: The Surprising Lesson I Learned

There was a time in middle school when one of my teachers decided to ban anything related to Roblox. No talking about it, no drawings of characters, no mentioning it during free time. If you did, she would send you out of the classroom.

At first, I thought she was just being strict, but it quickly became clear—this wasn’t about keeping us focused. It felt like she had something against the game itself.

I played Roblox almost every day after school. It wasn’t just a game for me—it was a way to hang out with my friends, build creative worlds, and even learn a little about coding. When she banned it, it felt like a piece of my daily life was suddenly being treated as a “bad thing.”

That made me embarrassed to even mention what I enjoyed. It was like she was telling me my hobby didn’t matter, and that feeling of not being understood was tough.

Looking back, I realize the ban wasn’t really about Roblox. She didn’t understand what we were passionate about, and for her, it was just a “distraction.” But for me, it was a tool for creativity, teamwork, and stress relief.

Instead of hiding my interests, I eventually found a better way to handle it. I learned to explain the positive side of Roblox to adults. When I showed my parents that I was learning basic game design and problem-solving, they actually encouraged me to keep playing—just with balance.

This taught me a huge lesson: You don't have to hide the things you love just because someone else doesn't understand them. It’s a chance to show them the real value in your passion.

I share this because I know a lot of students and young adults deal with teachers, parents, or even friends who don’t understand the things they’re passionate about. Maybe it’s a game, a sport, or a hobby.

The truth is, if something brings you joy and helps you grow, it has value—even if not everyone sees it that way. You have every right to be proud of your passions, and with a little effort, you can help others see their value too.
